Why half a point matters on an NBA game total

The total is a result threshold

A full-game NBA total concerns the combined score of both teams. The over or under side and the posted number define the selection. If the final combined score is 221, over 220.5 wins and over 221.5 loses. That single point is enough to reverse the result.

A sportsbook offering over 221.5 at a plus price is offering a different threshold from over 220.5 at a minus price. A comparison table should not call the plus price the best for the lower total.

Compare the same side and number

Start with the NBA schedule so the matchup and tipoff are correct. Check whether both quotes apply to the full game. Then group over 220.5 with over 220.5 from other sportsbooks; keep under 220.5 in its own row and 221.5 in another.

American odds describe payout. A +100 quote returns $100 profit on a $100 winning stake; −110 requires $110 for $100 profit. The payout comparison becomes meaningful only after the total and side match.

A missing quote is not a lower quote

A sportsbook might not list a total or may suspend it. Do not fill that gap with a stale price or an alternate line. A source snapshot should expose the coverage gap, then the reader can verify the current market at a sportsbook available in their location.

• Confirm the game and full-game period.
• Match over or under and the exact total.
• Compare American prices only inside that matched row.
